【Morioka, Iwate】Fukuda Bakery

Fukuda Bakery is a bakery that has been a local favorite for many years. Its fluffy bread attracts many people.

About: Fukuda Bakery

Fukuda Bakery was established in 1948 and is famous for its fluffy and moist special koppe bread. Unlike the bakery you might imagine, there are no bread lined up in the store. You order your favorite combination of about 50 different ingredients, bean paste, and fillings, and the staff sandwiches the ingredients onto the koppe bread in front of you to complete your bread. The combinations are endless, ranging from sweet items such as Koshi An (sweet bean paste) to peanuts to side dishes such as eggs and teriyaki chicken.

Highlights:

“At Fukuda Bakery, we want you to fully enjoy your custom-ordered combinations. With about 50 different ingredients to choose from, it might be a tough decision, but if you’re unsure, we recommend trying one of our popular menu items like ‘An Butter,’ ‘Peanut Butter,’ ‘Jam Butter,’ or ‘Green Tea An’ (green tea bean paste). While the variety of ingredients is a highlight, Fukuda Bakery’s pride and joy is its fluffy koppe bread. Inspired by the founder’s desire to ‘fill the bellies of students,’ the koppe bread is so large it protrudes from both hands, and its moist, fluffy texture makes it so delicious that you can easily enjoy as much as you’d like.”

The main store is designed to resemble a school building, with menu signs inside featuring a chalkboard-style design, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a typical Japanese school.
