Concept
“A ryokan that is kind to both the heart and body.”
The ryokan’s history began about 200 years ago when the first owner, Eikichi, opened Anahara Onsen. Although located in a more secluded area than the bustling Iizaka Onsen, the ryokan has embraced new trends and innovations over the generations, spreading the name “Yoshikawaya” far and wide.
That spirit of innovation continues today. While offering a relaxing retreat for adults, the ryokan also provides spaces where families can unwind together. Guests can enjoy a book lounge featuring 4,000 manga volumes hand-picked by the manga-loving owner, a fruit juice dispenser, and the “Peach Shrine” dedicated to the sacred “Nade-momo” (Peach of Blessings). These unique features allow guests to fully enjoy both the ryokan and the charm of Fukushima.
The meticulously designed entrance, which greets guests upon arrival, instantly helps them forget the hustle and bustle of city life. The gift shop offers a wide variety of local Fukushima treats and specialty products, ensuring an enjoyable shopping experience during your stay. From check-in to check-out, the ryokan provides a fulfilling and memorable stay.
Rooms
A variety of room types are available to accommodate diverse needs, including Japanese-style rooms, Japanese-Western hybrid rooms, and luxurious rooms with private open-air baths.
The rooms feature a modern and tranquil design, creating a comfortable space for relaxation. Large windows allow natural light to fill the rooms and offer views of the changing seasons on Katakura Mountain or the picturesque landscapes of this fruit-growing region.
Hot Springs
Yoshikawaya boasts Fukushima’s largest open-air baths and grand communal baths. Guests can enjoy the seasonal beauty of nature while listening to the gentle murmur of the Surikami River, providing a rejuvenating experience. There are two types of open-air baths and communal baths with distinct atmospheres, and they switch between genders in the morning and evening, allowing guests to enjoy both during their stay. Private baths are also available by reservation, offering a luxurious moment of solitude amidst the majestic natural surroundings.
Cuisine
The ryokan specializes in seasonal Japanese cuisine made with fresh, local ingredients. Using carefully selected seasonal ingredients from Tohoku and Fukushima, the dishes are crafted with meticulous care, offering both visual appeal and rich flavors. Guests can savor the tender red meat of black Wagyu beef and Yoshikawaya’s signature “Beauty Soup,” showcasing the bounty of Fukushima’s natural environment in a kaiseki-style meal.
The “Beauty Soup” is a luxurious medicinal soup containing soft-shelled turtle and shark fin, promoting inner wellness. Fukushima is also known as a “Fruit Kingdom,” and seasonal fruits are incorporated into both desserts and main dishes. Guests are encouraged to enjoy the fresh, juicy fruits in various forms.
Breakfast is served in a buffet format, featuring freshly prepared items such as grilled fish, grilled rice balls, French toast, and Fukushima’s local specialties. Guests can enjoy as much as they like.
