【Minamiaizu, Fukushima】Inn of Sincerity Hoshinoi

This inn is known for its attentive staff and the high-quality hot spring water from Yunokami Onsen. With 70% of guests returning for another visit, it’s a place you’ll want to come back to again and again.

Concept

“Sincerity and warm hospitality.”

Hoshinoi (the Hoshi family) originally started as a sake brewery, and their sake, “Hoshinoi,” was beloved by many. Later, the brewery was converted into a movie theater, and in 1976, with the addition of hot spring water, it became an inn. The inn was named “Magokoro no Yado Hoshinoi,” reflecting the previous owner’s desire to warmly welcome guests, as well as the name of their famous sake.

The thoughtful name of the inn reflects the warm hospitality guests experience here. From the moment you arrive, the staff greets you like family, making you feel right at home. With friendly smiles, heartfelt service, cozy rooms, relaxing hot springs, and delicious meals made with local ingredients, you’ll find yourself thinking, “I’ll definitely come back” by the time you leave.

Hoshinoi values its strong ties to the local community, offering guests a chance to experience the charm of Minamiaizu on a night tour, personally guided by the owner. (Morning tours are also available depending on the season.) Ouchi-juku, in particular, takes on a peaceful, almost magical atmosphere at night, completely different from the daytime hustle and bustle.

Rooms

Hoshinoi offers three types of rooms to suit every guest’s needs: Japanese-style rooms, Japanese-Western hybrid rooms, and Western-style rooms. Each room is carefully designed with attention to detail, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that reflects the inn’s heartfelt hospitality.

The rooms are filled with a calming Japanese ambiance, where a gentle breeze flows through the window and the soothing sounds of nature surround you, offering the perfect environment for relaxation.

Reservations are currently accepted by phone only, so guests are encouraged to call and discuss their room preferences.

You can also enjoy one of Hoshinoi’s unique features: Yunoue Onsen hot spring water, available 24 hours a day, allowing you to relax whenever you like. The indoor and outdoor baths are separated by gender, and they are switched during dinner time. Feel free to visit the large baths as often as you like during your stay to unwind and ease the fatigue of your journey.

Meals

The restaurant offers heartwarming Japanese cuisine made with an abundance of local ingredients. The dishes, which highlight seasonal flavors, are not only visually stunning but also full of taste. Hoshinoi’s specialty, “Potato Stew,” is a dish that will leave a lasting impression, with guests often saying, “I’ve never tasted potatoes this delicious.” Other unique dishes, such as “Jyunen Udon” and seasonal offerings made with locally sourced ingredients, ensure you can enjoy the freshest and most delicious meals available at the time of your visit.

In addition, as a remnant of the original brewery, a wide variety of local sake, including limited editions from various regions of Aizu, can be enjoyed with your dinner. Sake enjoyed with a meal is also very special.

Breakfast at Hoshinoi is a traditional Japanese set meal designed to awaken your senses gently. The main dish features grilled salmon, carefully selected for its perfect balance of saltiness and doneness. Each dish is thoughtfully prepared with attention to detail, offering a heartwarming start to your day.
