Concept
“Delicious meals for guests of fishing boats.”
Katsugyo no Yado Asashio is a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) in Kosai City’s rich natural environment that specializes in serving fresh seafood. It is also a place where the local charm is conveyed through food. Driven by the desire to serve delicious meals, the establishment transitioned from a dining venue for fishing boat visitors to a ryokan in 1982.
This ryokan began with a passion for great food, and as such, it takes great care in its cuisine, sourcing fresh fish daily to bring out the best seasonal flavors. Guests can enjoy unique dishes available only at certain times of the year, offering an opportunity to deeply connect with the local food culture.
From the guest rooms, visitors can admire the beautiful scenery of Lake Hamana. The view is especially breathtaking at sunrise and sunset, offering moments of serenity and renewal.
Rooms
Katsugyo no Yado Asashio provides thoughtfully designed rooms for a comfortable stay. Each room is arranged to highlight the stunning natural beauty of Kosai City. By opening the windows, guests can enjoy panoramic views of Lake Hamana from every room. All rooms face south, allowing sunlight to fill the space and the refreshing sea breeze to flow through. As the sun sets, the lake’s surface turns a beautiful shade of orange, providing an ever-changing spectacle from the comfort of your room.
All rooms are Japanese-style with a tranquil atmosphere, creating a relaxing space. Upon entering, the pleasant scent of tatami (woven straw mats) greets guests, offering a comforting sense of being at home.
The ryokan also features spacious gender-separated large communal baths. Guests can stretch out and soak, relieving the fatigue of travel. The baths are open from 4:00 PM after check-in until 9:00 AM the next morning, allowing guests to bathe at their convenience.
Cuisine
The pride of Asashio lies in its dishes featuring an abundance of fresh, local seafood. The ryokan places great emphasis on ingredient selection, sourcing seafood from Maizaka Port and Lake Hamana, as well as fresh local vegetables grown in the fertile soil of Enshu. Only the freshest and highest-quality ingredients are selected.
Each dish is carefully prepared to maximize the natural flavors of the ingredients. The beautifully presented dishes are a feast for both the eyes and the palate.
The ryokan follows the philosophy of serving “hot dishes while they’re hot and cold dishes while they’re cold,” adjusting the serving pace to ensure that each meal is enjoyed in its best state.
The rice used at Asashio is exceptional as well. It is Tanada Rice, cultivated with great care on terraced fields, and it pairs perfectly with the other dishes.
Breakfast is a nostalgic Japanese-style meal with gentle flavors that warmly awaken the body in the morning.
Guests can enjoy a variety of flavorful dishes, fully appreciating the blessings of Kosai City’s natural environment while spending a heartwarming and fulfilling time.
