Concept
“Everything about Japan is here.”
RYOKAN PLUM is a charming inn just an 8-minute walk from Odawara Station, offering an immersive stay steeped in the city’s history. Originally built in 1922, this over-century-old building was renovated and reopened in 2021 with the goal of sharing the allure of Odawara with a wider audience. While retaining the charm of its historic architecture, the inn incorporates modern values, featuring carefully selected vintage furniture and lighting to create a nostalgic, retro ambiance.
The owner embraces the unique Japanese philosophy of “mashup”—transforming and blending global influences into something distinctly Japanese. This philosophy is reflected throughout the inn, combining the warmth of traditional Japanese homes with modern sensibilities. The result is a cozy space where visitors can unwind while feeling deeply connected to the rich history and culture of Odawara.
Rooms
RYOKAN PLUM offers both Japanese-style and Western-style rooms, accommodating up to 8 guests in a single room. The Japanese-style rooms provide a peaceful ambiance with tatami mats, allowing guests to relax and experience the traditional Japanese way of life. The Western-style rooms are modern and elegant, with carefully selected interiors designed to create a relaxing and stylish atmosphere.
Among the 5 available rooms, here are 2 that standout.
Suite Room 101/UME (First Floor:Western Style Max 8 Guests)
The largest room at RYOKAN PLUM, this suite can accommodate up to 8 guests, making it a perfect room for families or groups of friends. The bunk beds evoke the thrill of a secret hideaway, while a wall mural featuring plum blossoms—the symbol of Odawara—adds a unique touch. The warm vintage lighting further enhances the cozy and inviting atmosphere.
Room 202/MIKAN (Second Floor: Japanese Style Max 4 Guests)
This modern Japanese-style room beautifully blends history with contemporary design. Featuring tatami mats and wooden floors, it offers an authentic Japanese texture best enjoyed barefoot. Shoji sliding doors separate the hallway from the living area, creating a flexible and serene space. The soft glow of washi paper and bamboo lighting enhances the room’s warmth, adding a tranquil ambiance.
shoji: is a traditional Japanese sliding door, window, or room divider made of a wooden frame covered with translucent paper. It allows light to pass through while maintaining privacy and is commonly used in Japanese-style rooms.
Dining
While the inn does not provide meals, guests can make use of a shared kitchen equipped with all the necessary utensils and tableware. Cooking with local ingredients can become a memorable part of your journey, and you’re also welcome to bring in takeout meals or beverages.
