【Uda City, Nara】Yatakiya, Yudayu no Yado (薬湯の宿 やたきや)

Yatakiya is an inn renovated from a 300-year-old traditional farmhouse. Its rooms feature herbal baths that help guests forget the fatigue of the day. The inn is also pet-friendly, allowing you to enjoy your stay with your pets.

This natural, tranquil environment is perfect for healing both body and mind.

Concept

“To a nostalgic future within you.”

Yatakiya is located in the eastern part of Nara, in an area called “Yamato Kogen” in Uda City, specifically in the region of Hachidaki, which has long been known for its herbal culture. Here, guests can enjoy hot springs and meals made with local medicinal herbs, such as the “Yamato Touki” herb, while escaping from the everyday life and experiencing peace and quiet.

The inn is surrounded by rice fields and farms, with a rich, natural landscape. In each season, the surroundings provide a unique message, making this a place to feel the “cyclical connections” that nature offers.

Guests can also participate in workshops that focus on engaging with nature through all five senses and contemplating what it means to be healthy. Activities include herbal picking, historical walks through the village, farming in the garden, and eating the vegetables and herbs you harvest. These activities help you focus on “exercise,” “rest,” and “nutrition” to spend time nurturing both your body and mind.

Rooms

The inn offers four types of rooms, each carefully designed to ensure comfort and relaxation.

The rooms preserve traditional Japanese atmosphere while incorporating modern comforts. Some rooms are renovated from storage buildings, and there are also rooms where pets are welcome. The tatami rooms exude cleanliness and tranquility, offering guests a space to unwind, with windows that provide beautiful views of nature across the four seasons.

Each room offers a unique experience for solo travelers, families, or groups to relax and enjoy.

Baths
All baths are herbal baths featuring “Yamato Touki” in the bath products made by the inn itself. These herbal baths are known for their relaxing effects, especially in relieving nerve pain and fatigue. The scent of the herbal bath provides additional relaxation. The cedar wood bath and Shigaraki pottery tubs offer a calm, traditional Japanese ambiance, allowing you to fully unwind and warm up from within.

Meals

The inn serves meals made from carefully selected ingredients, including organic, pesticide-free vegetables grown on its own farm. Guests can enjoy the seasonal tastes of Nara to the fullest.

The meals feature local vegetables and medicinal herbs, highlighting the flavors of each season. Every dish is not only delicious but also visually beautiful, engaging all five senses.

For dinner, there are organic wines, craft beers, whiskey, and sake available, along with wine pairings recommended by the chef, adding a touch of luxury to your meal experience.

The breakfast is a warm, gentle start to the day, featuring dishes made with “Yamato Touki” from the herbal garden and black beans from Uda City, served as part of a traditional Japanese breakfast with tea porridge.
